Our Dedication to the Environment

Jonathan Rose & Companies tries to advance the state of environmentally responsible development with each of our projects. The following illustrates our efforts to reduce the impact of our development.

Green development begins by developing in the right location. Highlands' Garden Village is located in inner city Denver, minutes from the downtown center. Although we have built interior roads for the project, the village is woven into the city's existing road, water and sewer network. By utilizing existing infrastructure investments, developing 306 homes and 90,000 square feet of commercial on a 27-acre urban infill site, we are providing an alternative to the development of more then 100 Greenfield acres that would be consumed at suburban densities.

Located in northwest Denver rather then the suburbs, our residents are able to take an easy bus ride to downtown and walk to existing neighborhood retail areas. The mix of uses further reduces our project's auto dependency. Neighborhood serving retail, community parks and arts and cultural facilities located within the village will provide new and old residents with many of their day-to-day needs, therefore encouraging pedestrian rather then automotive traffic.

Existing site elements are an asset to the community. We are renovating the 110-year-old Elitch Theater, once the longest running summer stock theater in the U.S., into a center for arts and culture. The theater is well loved by the existing community thereby creating an easily recognized village. The carousel pavilion that once housed 1926 carousel ride has been restored with a walking labyrinth and will feature farmers markets, small concerts and private weddings. The historic entrance park has been restored to reflect the formal gardens of the former amusement park.

During demolition of the amusement park ride and buildings we made an effort to recycle as much material as possible. A concrete crusher was brought on-site to crush the 30 tons of existing concrete and asphalt that we re-used in the village roadways and lanes.

Our multi-family and senior apartments include recycled construction materials and products and use Wind Source Generated Electricity.

Single family and row homes have been constructed to Denver's Home Builders Association's Built Green Program. These homes feature energy efficient, mechanical systems and home appliances as well as recycled construction materials and products and environmentally conscience construction products.

The spirit of responsible redevelopment is embodied in Highlands' Garden Village. Jonathan Rose & Companies continue to seek out further ways in which we can help lesson our impact on our environment for all of our projects.
